Father’s Day is June 20, 2010. If you are stumped on what to get for Dad for Father’s Day, I’ve come up with a list of gifts that would be great for runners (and for those of you on a tight budget). If you want to spend more, you can always give him a gift pack made up of multiple items. This will be especially great for him if you know he is training for a race.

Here are some suggestions with a wide price range to accommodate varying wallet sizes:

Race Day Gift Bag

Might be best to use this gift bag as an outline/starter and make your own for dad using his favorite sports brand duffle bag as a starter. This Nike Race Day Duffle Bag filled with race goodies would make for an ultimate Race Day goodie gift bag for Nike lovers.

The Stick

Although it looks like a medieval torture device, it’s a really great stretching tool for runners at all levels. The Stick is used in lieu or to aid sports massages, taking out tough knots all over the body.

For the rock out and run out Dad (and Ramones fan). A very cool tech tee he’d actually wear. Check out the black runner tea with eagle emblem for the image featured in this post.

GUTR Ultimate Sweatband

Strange looking headband but super effective. Kind of works like a rain gutter for profuse sweating. Great gift for gear geeks.

Aqua Jogging Gear

Dad might be looking for an alternative way to stay out of the heat during summer training. This kit comes with a how-to DVD.

Born To Run by Christopher McDougall

This is the must read book for runners everywhere. Great for bookworms and serious running enthusiasts.

Finish Line Doormat

It’s kitschy. It’s cute… it’s good for Dad’s workshed… maybe the house if it’s allowed.

iTunes Purchase RunKeeper

For those on a tight budget you can get Dad the RunKeeper App Pro. It tracks your pace and mileage. Great for those who are Garmin-less.

Stony Point Park

Pointing Down, originally uploaded by jennsteria.

In my growing attempt to getting some cross-training done, I have finally realized a long time goal of walk off backwards from a cliff (rappelling) via Stony Point Park in Chatsworth, CA. Rappelling is basically strapping yourself to a point or anchor near a rock and walking or leaping down the side of a rocky cliff or other high point. It was terribly scary and beyond fun.

I highly recommend checking this place out to anyone who wants to get their feet wet in some extreme sports and don’t want to travel all the way to Joshua Tree to get it done. The rock climbing options at Stony Point Park are not of a great multitude but at definitely height worth and climb worthy to the beginner or novice climber.

Ragnar Relay LA Exchange 19

This is where I’m supposed to be running 7 miles at 3am. To be followed by my next leg at… 11am. I doubt it’ll be looking like this come race weekend (unless there’s some disturbance in space/time/etc that’ll make the sun shine as brightly).

Mission: My Spring with Griffith Park

March 29th, 2010

Griffith Park, originally uploaded by jennsteria.

Although as far as specific trails are concerned, Westridge Trail will always hold a special place in my heart, as far as the state parks and outdoors close to home are concerned, Griffith Park has totally won me over. I’ve been exploring/trail running various places with friends and am hoping to be able to best capture the whole experience this spring. Why only this Spring? Just thought like it would be a cool way to manage it personal project-wise.

Lace Up To Save Lives

February 8th, 2010

Some of the world’s most popular athletes have joined forces in the global fight against AIDS/HIV in Africa in the form of some pretty cool looking laces. Nike’s (RED) lace campaign aims to raise money for the fight against AIDS/HIV with the proceeds from limited edition laces. They only cost $4 and are available at stores or www.nike.com. 100% of the profit go to The Global Fund to Fight AIDS. Pretty cool!
