Dealing with Garmin Deficiency: Motion X-GPS

It’s been two weeks since my Garmin died and I am just biding time until I am once again willing to drop a couple hundred bucks to buy a new one. In the meantime, I have taken a few suggestions from different folks on a suitable replacement. Best one I have seen so far that works with my iPhone 3GS has been the Motion X-GPS app. According to the website it offers:

  • Live speed and altitude graphs: view your real-time progress when you record tracks.
  • Ascent, decent, and gradient information: monitor your climb and descent.
  • New sharing interface: sharing your tracks, waypoints, and current position is easier and more intuitive than ever before.
  • Advanced on-board maps: only access the wireless network when you want to.

It’s pretty user friendly, the only downfall is that it hinders me from being able to listen to my Pandora station on my iPhone (since I’ve also misplaced both my shuffle AND my iPod nano). My running is really being tested this season. But this too shall pass.
