imATHELTE.com – The Social Networking Site for Triathletes + Iron Men

So I’ve been on and off this site imATHLETE.com for a couple of weeks now and everytime I seriously evaluate an athletic social networking site, I think about WHO started it. Much like fashion and their designers, you can tell a lot about a social network from the founder’s background… but I digress…

imATHLETE is a social networking site that is heavily focused on event participation and caters to a large user base of tri-atheltes and iron man competitors (not my thing but definitely respect that group). The profile building is a bit involved… I categorized my “level” as “weekend warrior” since I am just a runner. As far as ease with usability, the site is not very 2.0 friendly (you can’t find friends from other social networks like twitter, facebook or your email like you can upon signing up on dailymile.com).

I do LOVE that you can import your blog RSS feed into your profile. Now that’s what I’m talking about! Also, they seem to have a lot of promotional partnerships with some big wigs like NBC Universal Sports and Zoom shoes… mean cool giveaways and possible shwag from participation.

Definitely recommend it to tri + IMers who compete in a ton of races as a way to met other peas in their pod!
